The SMT Process Technician is responsible for supporting, optimizing, and troubleshooting Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing processes to ensure product quality, equipment reliability, and production efficiency. This role bridges production and engineering by maintaining process control and resolving technical issues on the line.
Key Responsibilities
Process & Equipment Support
· Set up, program, and maintain SMT equipment including:
o Pick-and-place machines (preferably MyCronic Equipment)
o Reflow oven
o Screen printers (preferably EuroPlacer)
o SPI /3D AOI / X-ray systems
· Develop and adjust machine programs for new and existing products
· Create and optimize solder reflow profiles and process parameters
· Perform machine changeovers and validate process readiness for production runs
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
· Diagnose and resolve equipment faults and process defects in real time
· Perform root cause analysis on:
o Solder defects (bridging, insufficient solder, voiding)
o Placement accuracy issues
o Yield/reliability concerns
· Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Quality & Process Control
· Ensure compliance to IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
· Support first article inspections and first-piece approvals
· Monitor process metrics (yield, defects, scrap/rework) and drive improvements
· Support AOI/SPI program development and continuous accuracy improvement
Production & Continuous Improvement
· Support production teams to meet output, quality, and delivery targets
· Identify and implement process improvements to reduce defects and increase throughput
· Participate in NPI (New Product Introduction) builds and process validation
· Assist with documentation, work instructions, and process standardization
Training & Cross-functional Support
· Train operators on equipment setup, process controls, and best practices
· Serve as technical support for operators, leads, and quality personnel
· Collaborate with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to resolve issues
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
· Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Manufacturing, or related field (preferred)
· 1–3+ years SMT setup, troubleshooting, or process technician experience
· Experience in electronics manufacturing environment required
Technical Skills
· Strong working knowledge of:
o SMT components and PCB assembly processes
o Soldering, reflow profiles, and defect mechanisms
o SMT equipment (placement, printing, inspection systems)
· Ability to read schematics, BOMs, and assembly drawings
· Familiarity with IPC standards and ESD controls

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
