The Broadway PT is looking for a per diem physical therapist to join our team for backstage and on-site coverage with performing arts productions in NYC.
We are a whole-human, prevention-focused physical therapy practice serving performing artists, arts workers, and complex bodies. Our backstage work is not just taping, massage, and hoping for the best. We provide thoughtful, efficient, high-quality care in real performance environments, where time is limited, space is weird, and the work matters.
About the role:
This is a flexible per diem position providing backstage physical therapy coverage for Broadway, Off-Broadway, and performing arts productions. Coverage may include injury assessment, manual therapy, taping, mobility work, load management, exercise prescription, and communication with performers and production teams as appropriate.
This role is a strong fit for a PT who is calm under pressure, adaptable, clinically confident, and comfortable working in nontraditional spaces.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing backstage/on-site physical therapy coverage during scheduled production blocks
- Assessing and treating performers and arts workers in short-format sessions
- Supporting injury prevention, recovery, and performance readiness
- Communicating clearly and professionally with performers, stage management, and The Broadway PT team
- Maintaining appropriate documentation and confidentiality
- Representing The Broadway PT’s values of hope, empowerment, and resiliency
Ideal candidate:
- Licensed Physical Therapist in New York
- Comfortable working with performing artists and high-demand movers
- Strong manual therapy, clinical reasoning, and exercise prescription skills
- Adaptable, grounded, and able to work in fast-paced backstage environments
- Trauma-informed, inclusive, and respectful of diverse identities and lived experiences
- Collaborative, communicative, and aligned with whole-human, prevention-focused care
- Performing arts experience is strongly preferred
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
Training will be provided.
