POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The successful candidate will work to enhance the experience of staff, parents and children by hiring and training successful staff members and addressing challenges faced from inside and outside the organization. The Assistant Director of Daycare at Watertown Family YMCA assists the Director in management, programming, and operations of the overall daycare program while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that provides a safe and healthy environment for all children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
2. Provides excellent service to members, guests, families, children and program participants in the Y.
3. Responsive to the needs of prospective members, participants and families.
4. Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
5. Assists the Director with all administrative duties including reporting, tracking, staff training, purchasing, and hiring.
6. Assists with the recruitment and hiring processes of staff members.
7. Onboards and develops new staff members for success. Maintains staff schedules and evaluates staff performance.
8. Ability to assume management and operation of the daycare when the Director is absent.
9. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, parents and caregivers, and community organizations (e.g., state childcare licensing agency, school administration) to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
10. Assists in handling staff & parent concerns and issues as they may arise.
11. Assists in the cleaning of the program area or branch to which the staff is responsible.
12. Fills in to cover staffing needs if required.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
· One to two years related experience (e.g., supervisor or coordinator of childcare programs) preferred.
· Minimum age of 21.
· Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.
· 15 hours of OCFS training within the 6 months will be required to be completed.
· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
