Overview
The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional leader and key member of the campus leadership team, partnering with the Principal to ensure high levels of student achievement through the implementation of the Houston Independent School District's New Education System (NES). This role is responsible for fostering a positive, student-centered culture while supporting rigorous instruction, coaching teachers, developing staff, and ensuring operational excellence across the campus.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and results-driven educational leader who is passionate about accelerating student outcomes, cultivating teacher effectiveness, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The Assistant Principal works closely with teachers, students, families, and community partners to promote academic excellence, uphold district expectations, and ensure every student has access to high-quality instruction and meaningful learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Principal in implementing the vision, goals, and expectations of the HISD New Education System (NES).
- Provide instructional leadership through classroom observations, coaching, and actionable feedback to improve teacher effectiveness and student achievement.
- Monitor curriculum implementation to ensure alignment with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), district initiatives, and evidence-based instructional practices.
- Analyze student achievement data to identify trends, inform instructional decisions, and develop targeted intervention plans.
- Foster a positive school culture that promotes high expectations, student engagement, equity, and academic excellence.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and professional growth of instructional and support staff.
- Coordinate and monitor campus programs, including interventions, student support services, and special populations, ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Assist in developing and implementing campus improvement plans aligned with district priorities and measurable student outcomes.
- Oversee daily campus operations, including student discipline, attendance, safety procedures, and emergency preparedness.
- Build strong partnerships with families and community stakeholders through effective communication and meaningful engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with leadership teams to ensure operational efficiency, effective resource management, and successful implementation of campus initiatives.
- Promote a collaborative professional learning environment that encourages continuous improvement, innovation, and shared leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all district policies, state and federal regulations, and accountability requirements.
- Proven experience in school administrative roles such as School Administrative Director or Assistant Principal within a K-12 or early childhood setting.
- Demonstrated success in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and managing educational programs at the school level.
- Extensive knowledge of educational compliance standards including special education law and childhood development regulations.
- Strong background in managing budgets within educational settings and supervising personnel effectively.
- Experience facilitating professional development sessions for educators focused on teaching strategies, classroom management, and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with legal aspects of school operations including educational regulation adherence and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication skills with experience in public speaking and community engagement efforts.
- Ability to lead teams through strategic planning processes while maintaining a focus on student achievement and staff growth.
- Prior classroom teaching experience coupled with supervisory responsibilities enhances understanding of daily instructional challenges.
