Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health (BH) Medical Assistant functions in conjunction with a Behavioral Health Provider to assist in the provision of professional behavioral health care and nursing support. Duties include performing as a member of the team and assisting in the administration and maintenance of an efficiently operated clinic. May require travel to BRMC satellite locations to provide nursing support as needed. The BH Medical Assistant must demonstrate a sincere dedication and loyalty to the mission, vision, and core values of Blue Ridge Medical Center.
Essential Job Duties and Functions:
- Greets and rooms patients ensuring two patient identifiers.
- Obtains vital signs, weight and height and any other pertinent data per center protocols.
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
- Assists in examination and treatment of patients. Performs necessary test(s) as directed by provider.
- Collects, labels, and prepares specimens for lab as needed.
- Documents all patient care provided in the patients’ electronic health record.
- Assists with routine maintenance activities including but not limited to the following: cleans equipment, stocks exam rooms, organizes clinical work area, etc.
- Adheres to standards and guidelines of Joint Commission, Patient Center Medical Home and Meaningful Use requirements.
- Participates in performance improvement activities in accordance with applicable standards.
- Supports on-going grant needs for individual providers as instructed by the BH Director.
- Performs other necessary duties as assigned by the Managing Director of BH to meet the goal of providing quality health care services.
