Job Description:
The successful Plant Health Care Applicator (PHCA) is a Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) licensed applicator responsible for quality control of client sites through an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on common-sense practices. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycle of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. These responsibilities include researching pests, plants, and appropriate pest control products and application methods. The result is to maintain attractive, healthy, and orderly grounds within the expectations of the client. The PHCA will also perform all other duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Responsible for assisting UVETS PHC program through effective industry practices and sound knowledge of local plants, pests, weather, soil, and natural resources

Control and distribute chemical substances to maintain or improve the appearance, structure, and vitality of landscape plant

Identify chemical enhancement to ensure plants acquire sufficient resources to adequately meet all of their functionsWork closely with UVETS Maintenance and Water Management Department to conform to the IPM program

Manage proper storage of PHC inventory and document necessary application at client sites according to TDA regulations and standards

Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned vehicle, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop areas

Complete UVETS’ training, certification tracks (CT) that heighten forward mobility
Required Skills/Abilities:

Planting, trimming, spraying, fertilizing, and other skills typical in lawn maintenance

Education and Experience:

Texas Department of Agriculture License with a category 3A

Minimum two (2) years experience in plant/turf health care field; military experience may be substituted to meet position requirements

Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean record

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
