Suburban Associates in Ophthalmology (SAO), a leading and well-established ophthalmology practice serving the Northwest Suburban Chicago area, is looking for a Full-Time Ophthalmic Scribe to join our growing team.

We are looking for a motivated, dependable, and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced medical environment and wants the opportunity to learn, grow, and become an important part of our clinical team.
This is a full-time position with the ability to work at our Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, and Hoffman Estates locations based on physician schedules. The position includes two Saturday mornings per month.
What You'll Do
As an Ophthalmic Scribe, you will work directly alongside our ophthalmologists and play an important role in both the physician and patient experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Accompanying the physician during patient examinations
- Accurately documenting patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Documenting examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and physician instructions
- Preparing and updating patient charts throughout the visit
- Assisting physicians with maintaining an efficient patient schedule and workflow
- Reviewing charts for completeness and accuracy
- Entering medication and prescription information as directed by the physician
- Assisting with orders, referrals, testing documentation, and follow-up instructions
- Communicating effectively with technicians, reception, scheduling, and other clinical staff
- Helping ensure an efficient and positive experience for our patients
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA requirements
What We're Looking For
- Previous medical scribe or ophthalmology experience is preferred but not required
- Strong computer and typing skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a busy clinical environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Dependable and organized
- Positive, professional, and team-oriented attitude
- Interest in healthcare and ophthalmology
- Ability to learn medical terminology and ophthalmic documentation
