Steam Management, Inc. (SMI) is a premier EPC contractor delivering custom solutions in the built environment for commercial, institutional, municipal, and industrial facilities nationwide. Our services include Investment Grade Audits (IGA) and assessments, engineering and consulting, turnkey installation, project management, commissioning, and ongoing lifecycle support for complex, multi-discipline projects.
Job Summary
The Mechanical Designer works closely with SMI’s engineering and operations teams to support the development, design, and delivery of mechanical and energy infrastructure projects. The primary focus of this position is the development of accurate 2D and 3D mechanical designs and construction drawings using the Autodesk suite, including AutoCAD Plant 3D.
A key component of the role is developing designs within existing facilities captured through LiDAR scans. The Mechanical Designer will participate in field surveys, perform LiDAR scans, register and process scan data, incorporate point clouds into the design environment, and use the resulting information to develop accurate 3D models and construction drawings under the direction and oversight of SMI project engineers.
The Mechanical Designer will also support field assessment activities, including steam trap surveys, mechanical system surveys, equipment documentation, and general project walkdowns. Field duties may include electronic data collection, digital photography, ultrasound testing, LiDAR scanning, field measurements, equipment identification, and detailed documentation of existing mechanical systems.
The position requires approximately 30% travel to customer facilities nationwide.
When not traveling, this position will be remote and will primarily support engineering design, CAD development, 3D modeling, point-cloud processing, and project documentation.
