We are seeking a highly adaptable, operationally minded, and athlete-centered Sports Performance Dietitian & Food Service Director to support an elite professional sports organization in the greater Bay Area in California. An active Registered Dietitian Credential is required for this role, specialty certification such as CSSD is a plus.
This role is uniquely embedded within both:
- Professional sports performance operations
- High-level food service and hospitality management

The Sports Performance Dietitian/FSD serves as both the leader of a high-performance foodservice operation and as an integrated member of the team’s daily high-performance environment.
This is a highly visible, fast-paced, and relationship-driven role requiring exceptional flexibility, professionalism, operational awareness, and emotional intelligence.

Your Role and Impact
As an embedded performance nutrition leader, you will oversee daily foodservice operations while helping shape a food-first culture that supports wellness, accountability, and elite athletic performance. Your leadership will directly influence how players fuel, recover, and perform at their highest potential.
What You Will Do
High-Performance Nutrition Integration
- Attend daily sports medicine/performance meetings
- Collaborate with athletic trainers, physical therapists, physicians, strength staff, and coaching personnel
- Develop individualized nutrition strategies based on training load, match schedules, rehabilitation status, body composition goals, bloodwork, and biomarker trends, as well as travel demands
- Support injured athletes through Return-to-Play (RTP) nutrition protocols
- Provide supplementation recommendations within approved protocols
- Conduct body composition assessments and athlete monitoring
- Oversee hydration strategy implementation and electrolyte systems
- Support fueling periodization
- Deliver player education, presentations, and individual consultations
- Support and manage nutrition systems such as Teamworks
- Provide operational and nutrition support surrounding team travel, including coordinating travel meal logistics, recovery meal planning, international travel fueling support, and matchday nutrition coordination
Food Service Leadership & Operations
- Oversee daily café and athlete dining operations
- Manage scheduling and labor coordination for culinary staff
- Review invoices, purchasing, inventory, and vendor management
- Manage café financials, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, inventory management, and profitability performance.
- Coordinate meal periods around training schedules and team operations
- Ensure execution of performance-focused menus and fueling strategies
- Support special events, matchday hospitality, and team functions
- Manage food safety, sanitation, and operational standards
- Oversee athlete lounge stocking and recovery station management
- Coordinate grab-and-go fueling systems and hydration stations
- Collaborate closely with chefs on menu development and athlete feedback, aligning with performance demands such as training loads, match calendar, recovery demands, environmental conditions, and travel schedules
- Support and manage operational infrastructure systems such as point of sale and inventory systems
- Reports on key performance indicators in both operations and performance nutrition
What You’ll Need
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required, with maintenance of credentialing
- 5+ years in food service or sports nutrition; 2+ years in leadership or director-level role
- Experience with catering, menu planning, and event nutrition (preferably in performance settings)
- Experience with performance nutrition, including recovery nutrition, hydration, supplementation, and team sport periodization
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of different people, including athletes, coaches, medical staff, culinary teams, and leadership
- Comfortable working non-traditional schedules, including early mornings, evenings, matchdays, and occasional weekends or travel with the team

Compensation: Competitive salary range of $90,000-$105,000 based on experience, with the potential of 10% yearly bonus based on performance
