8. Duties
o Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures
o Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure
o Arranges instruments according to given procedure
o Confirms that instruments work properly
o Maintains availability of instruments and supplies on the surgical field, to avoid delays
o Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy
o Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed
o Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety
o Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure
o Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
o Assists to maintain and update instrument cards and surgeons’ preference cards
o Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
o Documents forms according to facility policies and procedures
o Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patient’s status
o Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure
o Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards
o Inspects equipment for proper working condition

REQUIREMENTS
Required
- High school diploma or GED certification
- Completion of Surgical Scrub Technician course preferred
- Operating room surgical assisting experience, ophthalmic experience preferred
- Strong ethical and moral character references
Preferred
- Two years’ previous operating room experience
- ASC experience
