Peer Support Specialist
General Summary
Peer Support Specialist works as part of a team serving individuals with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders in a community based-setting. The peer works individually and in group settings to assist individuals in their journey toward recovery. Implements skill-based curriculums such as WRAP and WHAM. Assists persons served in system navigation and developing self-advocacy skills. Collaborates with the treatment team.

Student Loan Repayment: MCN is an approved National Health Service site (NHSC, a loan repayment program); in addition to Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), and MDHHS Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program (BHLRP). MCN offers tuition reimbursement of up to $5,250 per year.

Education & Training:
- Possession of a High School Diploma. Specialized training in peer supports, recovery, self-determination and independent facilitation is preferred.
Experience:
- Must have received at least one year of mental health treatment in public setting as required by MDHHS for peer positions.
Job Type: Full-time, Hourly, Non-exempt
Salary Range:
$19.10/hr - $26.75/hr, without certification
$19.99/hr - $28.31/hr, with certification
Other Requirements:
- Must be supervised by a qualified mental health professional who is a care specialist. Must complete peer support training through MCN and be deemed a Certified Peer Support Specialist within 1 year of employment.
- Must pass/meet minimum competency expectations for this position.
- Valid driver’s license is required. Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a State of Michigan chauffeur’s license within 30 days of hire
