For over 35 years, Cregger Construction has been designing, fabricating, and installing custom staircases and railing systems throughout Maryland and the surrounding states. Every project is built in-house using our woodworking shop, steel fabrication shop, aluminum welding shop, powder coating facility, and finishing department. Job Summary
We are looking for a dependable, motivated Stair & Rail Shop Technician to join our fabrication team. This position involves preparing materials, operating shop equipment, assembling stair and railing components, and ensuring every project meets our quality standards before installation.

Responsibilities
- Cut, mill, sand, and prepare wood, steel, and aluminum components using shop drawings and cut lists.
- Assist with fabrication and assembly of custom staircases, railings, and architectural components.
- Operate woodworking and fabrication equipment safely, including:
- Table saws
- Miter saws
- Routers
- Sanders
- Drill presses
- Other shop equipment as needed
- Verify dimensions and inspect parts for quality and accuracy.
- Prepare components for staining, powder coating, or installation.
- Load and unload materials and finished products.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Work closely with shop leadership and installation crews to keep projects moving efficiently.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in woodworking, carpentry, manufacturing, cabinet making, metal fabrication, or a related trade preferred.
- Stair and railing experience is a major plus.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure to 1/16".
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools.
- Strong math skills, including fractions and decimals.
- Ability to lift 70+ pounds regularly.
- Able to stand, bend, lift, and work in a fast-paced shop environment.
- Positive attitude, dependable, and eager to learn.
