The impact you will have: The Student Nutrition Assistant Manager plays a key leadership role in overseeing the planning, coordination, and supervision of meal production at the Culinary Center. This position ensures the efficient preparation and packaging of high-quality, nutritious meals for students, in full compliance with USDA and California Department of Education (CDE) regulations.
This role supports daily operations in a high-volume production kitchen producing approximately 12,000 meals per day, in addition to vended contract meals. Responsibilities include maintaining strict food safety and sanitation standards, guiding and supporting staff, and fostering a positive, collaborative team culture centered on student success.
This position supervises Culinary Center production staff, warehouse personnel, and elementary school kitchen staff, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency across all sites.
As an Assistant Manager – Classified in San José Unified, you will play a key role in developing and implementing strategies, processes, and programs that ensure effective staffing and operational support across the district. You will collaborate with site leaders and departments to deploy resources efficiently, support hiring and retention efforts, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations. Through data analysis, problem-solving, and strong leadership, you will help improve systems, support team development, and enhance service delivery—ultimately contributing to efficient operations that directly support student success and district goals. SB 848 Child Safety & Employment Disclosure Requirement
Effective January 1, 2026, in accordance with California Senate Bill 848 (School Employee Misconduct/Child Abuse Prevention Act), applicants for employment with San José Unified are subject to enhanced child safety, training, and employment disclosure requirements.
Under SB 848, schools are required to strengthen background vetting procedures and obtain employment history information related to allegations of egregious misconduct involving students. Former employers may be contacted to release records regarding substantiated findings of misconduct as permitted by law. Failure to provide complete and accurate information regarding prior educational employment or relevant misconduct findings may result in disqualification from the hiring process or withdrawal of an offer of employment.
SB 848 also expands mandated reporter requirements and requires annual child abuse prevention training for employees and certain volunteers by July 1, 2026. All employees must comply with district-adopted child safety policies, including procedures for supervising and protecting students.
