1. Report Promptly to nursing unit assigned to receive report from nursing personnel of previous shift.
2. Renders nursing care to residents within assigned unit as designated by Director of Nursing.
3. Each shift charge nurse must complete narcotic and other control drug count. sign narcotic drug sheet.
4. Observes residents for any change in condition and reports any change to physician, Director of Nursing and Administrator.
5. Perform venipuncture, administer I.V. Solution and maintains I.V. Lines.
6. May administer or assist medication nurse in administrating medication, and documents medicines given. Observes for any reports to physician and Director of Nursing Services and medication reactions.
7. Restocks treatment trays and prepares surgical instruments and other equipment to assist the physician with treatment or prepares other procedures.
8. Maintain records reflecting resident's condition, and other pertinent information.
9. Cooperates with other members of the medical care team and personnel of other departments in providing for resident’s total needs. Process physician's orders complete.
10. Assist Director in orientation of new personnel.
11. Attend specific in-service classes and assign nursing personnel within his/her responsibility to attend in-service classes and provide coverage on the floor.
12. Visits residents frequently to ensure maximum care.
13. Assist in teaching residents’ good health habits.
14. Participates and sees that resident care plans and nursing care plana re carried out.
15. Attend staff meeting as assigned.
16. Successfully completed a 90-day probation period.
17. Supervises and helps evaluate professional and non-professional personnel. Make recommendations to supervisors regarding disciplinary measures.
18. Other duties are assigned by the Director of Nursing.
19. Assumes responsibility for staff on her shift and provides for adequate staffing for the following shift.
20. Notes all absences and tardiness by facility employees; issues reprimands where appropriate; obtains substitutes as thought necessary.
21. Makes work assignments to nursing assistants based upon an evaluation of the assistants’ abilities and experiences.
22. Verifies actual time worked by facility employees when the time clock is not used or is inoperable.
23. Authorizes overtime of employees for overtime work and initial timecards.
24. Responsible for adherence by employees on all company rules and policies and is authorized to administer discipline as appropriate based upon evaluation of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
25. Listens to grievances of employees and intervenes with problems on the unit.
26. Assist on the nursing unit as needed, i.e., doctor’s rounds, supervises meal trays and assist with personal care as needed.
27. Authorizes other employees to alter working schedules based upon an evaluation of the present and future needs on the unit for the shift.
