The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Vocational Instructor position at the Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) in Mackenzie Point, Alaska.

What you will be doing:
As a Vocational Instructor with Goose Creek Correctional Center, you will be responsible for:

Teaching National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certified courses.
-
Setting up hands-on laboratories for instruction including supervising inmates for safety and compliance of NCCER’s performance testing.

Delivering NCCER tests to inmates and submitting paperwork to the Accredited Training Sponsor.

Counseling prisoners in areas of career development, education, and vocational training.

The working environment you can expect:
Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1500 inmates and employs over 350 staff. You will be working in an educational/shop environment with daily interaction with inmates.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Three years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable trade;ORThree years as a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance related training program;ORNational Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification in the applicable trade(s).
Special Note: Positions in the Vocational Instructor job class require expertise in a particular vocational trade such as the electrical, construction, or other trades. Recruitment and selection for these positions will be from among only those candidates who have the appropriate specialty background identified in the recruitment bulletin. As a condition of employment, some positions will be required to obtain NCCER certification in the applicable field with one year of employment. Some positions will require an extensive background investigation will be required for successful applicants and will work with inmates requiring care in observing institution security policies and procedures and may involve personal risk.
