GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs highly advanced (senior-level) technical assistance work providing foundational and continuing education to mounted equines and riders. Work involves developing training plans, documenting observed training behaviors, providing equine care, and coordination of veterinary and farrier care. Assists with maintaining equine facilities and related equipment as needed. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains facilities and equipment including but not limited to mowing, edging, painting, vehicle/trailer maintenance, stall and paddock cleaning, etc.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
Education - High School Diploma/equivalent.
Experience - Minimum of five (5) years' of verifiable experience training horses is preferred, but not required.
Licensure and/or Certification - Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.
Regulatory Knowledge - Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.
Horse Behavior/Training Knowledge - Must demonstrate a general understanding of equine behavior and minimize risk to self and others when interacting with horses. Must have the ability to safely train, evaluate, and develop horses. Experience starting young horses is preferred, but not required.
Machinery/Equipment - Must be able to safely and effectively operate and maintain motorized vehicles and equipment including but not limited to trucks, trailers, tractors, and lawn equipment.
Technology - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g. CAPPS, Microsoft Outlook) and be able to learn new software/systems.
Interpersonal Skills - Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers. Must demonstrate DPS, core values: Integrity, Excellence, Accountability, and Teamwork.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.
Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
