We are seeking a Lead Automation Maintenance Technician to join a growing operation supporting state-of-the-art automated material handling and fulfillment systems. This is an opportunity to become a key technical leader responsible for maintaining highly automated equipment while helping drive operational excellence in a fast-paced distribution environment.
As the Lead Automation Maintenance Technician, you will serve as a subject matter expert for automation systems, providing hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement support to maximize equipment reliability and system uptime.
What You'll DoAutomation System Maintenance & Reliability
- Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on automated material handling systems, conveyors, robotic equipment, lifts, storage systems, and related automation technologies.
- Diagnose and repair complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system issues.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts during equipment failures and system outages.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to reduce recurring downtime.
- Perform equipment calibrations, alignments, repairs, modifications, and component replacements.
- Maintain motors, drives, gearboxes, sensors, encoders, relays, safety circuits, and communication systems.
- Support equipment startups, commissioning activities, and system upgrades.
PLC, Controls & Robotics Support
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment utilizing ladder logic, HMI interfaces, I/O diagnostics, and industrial networks.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Troubleshoot robotic systems, automated guided vehicles, and automation controls.
- Assist with software updates, parameter changes, and automation optimization projects.
- Collaborate with engineering and controls teams on continuous improvement initiatives.
Operations & Production Support
- Monitor automation systems to ensure efficient product flow and operational performance.
- Support inbound, outbound, and storage operations by minimizing equipment downtime.
- Respond quickly to production-impacting issues and emergency maintenance situations.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and throughput.
Leadership & Team Development
- Serve as the lead technician and technical resource for automation maintenance.
- Mentor and support maintenance technicians and junior team members.
- Assist with work order prioritization and maintenance planning.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with operations, engineering, and management teams.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate maintenance records within the CMMS system.
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, equipment logs, and maintenance documentation.
- Track recurring equipment issues and recommend long-term solutions.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, OSHA regulations, and safety requirements.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting automated industrial systems.
- Experience supporting:
- Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
- Robotics and automated material handling systems
- Conveyor systems
- Distribution center, logistics, manufacturing, or fulfillment operations
- Advanced electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Strong PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, Omron, or similar platforms).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience with motors, drives, VFDs, sensors, encoders, and industrial controls.
- Experience utilizing CMMS software.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Automation Technology, Electronics, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
- Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, PLC, Robotics, OSHA 10/30, or NFPA 70E certifications.
- Experience leading maintenance teams or serving as a senior-level technician.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in industrial environments with automated machinery and moving equipment.
- Comfortable working at heights up to 45 feet utilizing proper fall protection.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and varying temperatures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical maintenance activities throughout the shift.
