Ashley Hall is committed to fostering both academic and athletic excellence. Our athletic programs are designed to support the growth of the whole student, helping young athletes develop character, confidence, and teamwork. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Head Coach to lead one of our 5th-8th Grade Middle School Girls Basketball Teams. This role is ideal for someone who values player development, positive mentorship, and creating a fun, competitive environment appropriate for middle school athletes.
The Middle School Basketball Head Coach will be responsible for leading and managing the 5th grade team, focusing on teaching basketball fundamentals, instilling teamwork, and fostering a love of the game. The coach will plan and run practices, manage game strategy, and serve as a role model for sportsmanship and integrity. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, patient, and experienced in working with younger student-athletes.
Practice Planning & Instruction: Design and lead age-appropriate practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and conditioning.
Game Preparation & Strategy: Teach basic offensive and defensive concepts, ensure players understand game rules, and create opportunities for success during competition.
Athlete Development: Encourage and mentor players, helping them build confidence, sportsmanship, and resilience on and off the court.
Leadership & Supervision: Provide structure, clear expectations, and a safe environment for players to grow.
Family & Community Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents, faculty, and athletic staff to keep them informed of schedules, team progress, and expectations.
Role Modeling: Consistently demonstrate integrity, positivity, and enthusiasm, modeling the values of Ashley Hall.
Program Alignment: Collaborate with the athletic department, middle, and upper school coaches to ensure the middle school program builds a strong foundation for future participation in higher-level teams.
Experience: Prior coaching or playing experience in basketball, preferably with middle school or youth athletes.
Knowledge: Strong grasp of basketball fundamentals appropriate for beginners and early skill development.
Communication: Ability to connect with middle school students, foster trust, and maintain clear communication with families.
Commitment: Availability for practices, games, and related activities, including evenings and weekends.
Leadership: Patience, positivity, and ability to motivate and mentor young athletes.
Team-Oriented: Collaborative mindset with the athletic staff to support the long-term goals of the program.

Since its founding in 1909, Ashley Hall has empowered young women to think critically, act ethically, and embrace their world with confidence. The School serves girls kindergarten through grade 12 (and is co-ed in its Early School, ages 2 to 5 years). Ashley Hall provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of a Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.
