The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment across all construction projects. This position works closely with project managers, superintendents, and field employees to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client safety requirements. The Construction Safety Specialist plays a key role in preventing workplace injuries by identifying hazards, providing safety training, conducting inspections, and fostering a proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
· Implement and support company safety programs across multiple construction projects.
· Conduct routine jobsite inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
· Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client safety requirements.
· Monitor subcontractor safety performance and verify compliance with established safety standards.
· Review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and permit-required work.
· Lead incident, injury, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
· Track corrective actions to ensure timely resolution of identified safety concerns.
· Analyze leading and lagging safety indicators to identify trends and recommend continuous improvements.
· Partner with project managers and superintendents to proactively address safety concerns.
· Maintain authority to stop work when imminent hazards or unsafe conditions are observed.
· Promote employee participation in hazard recognition and near-miss reporting initiatives.
· Maintain accurate safety records and assist with OSHA inspections, client audits, and regulatory reporting.
· Stay current on OSHA regulations and industry best practices to continuously improve company safety performance.
Qualifications
· Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience, preferably in commercial, heavy civil, or concrete construction.
· Strong knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
· Experience conducting jobsite inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations.
· Experience working with subcontractors and enforcing safety compliance.
· OSHA 30 Construction certification required.
· OSHA 510, CHST, CSP, or other professional safety certifications preferred.
· Excellent communication, coaching, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
· Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
· Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to multiple jobsites.
