Overnight Veterinary Technician Supervisor
4 Nights Per Week | 3 Consecutive Days Off | Emergency & Specialty Hospital
We are seeking an experienced Overnight Veterinary Technician Supervisor to lead and support our overnight emergency and specialty team. This is a hands-on leadership role for a highly skilled ER/ICU technician with strong critical care experience who thrives in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about advanced medicine, patient care excellence, staff training, hospital organization, and overnight leadership.
Schedule
- 4 overnight shifts per week
- 3 consecutive days off
- Schedule blocks may rotate periodically so all overnight staff receive leadership support and supervision
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support overnight technicians and assistants
- Serve as the overnight floor supervisor and leadership presence
- Work directly alongside ER and specialty doctors during emergency and critical cases
- Ensure hospital protocols, patient care standards, and workflow efficiency are maintained overnight
- Assist with client concerns and difficult conversations professionally and compassionately
- Oversee medical records for completeness and accuracy
- Review SmartFlows, treatment sheets, and billing accuracy
- Train, mentor, and elevate the overnight nursing team
- Ensure completion of CE assignments, protocol reviews, and advanced learning
- Maintain accountability, communication, and organization throughout the shift
- Assist with advanced nursing procedures and ICU case management
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
MUST HAVE:
- Veterinary emergency and critical care experience
- Advanced veterinary nursing skills
- Strong multitasking, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to function efficiently in a high-volume emergency/specialty setting
Advanced Critical Care Veterinary Nursing Skills Required
Candidates should be experienced and proficient in:
- NG tube placement
- Urinary catheter placement
- Central line placement and management
- Arterial catheter placement assistance and monitoring
- Advanced ICU patient monitoring
- Mechanical ventilation monitoring and troubleshooting
- Oxygen therapy management including HFNC, oxygen cages, and nasal oxygen
- Blood transfusion administration and transfusion monitoring
- Triage and rapid patient stabilization
- CPR and RECOVER protocol knowledge
- Advanced emergency drug calculations and CRI management
- Vasopressor and inotropic infusion management
- SmartFlow and advanced treatment sheet management
- Interpretation and trending of vital parameters
- Fluid therapy calculations and shock dose management
- Management of sepsis, trauma, toxicities, DKA, CHF, GDV, hemoabdomen, and critical post-op patients
- Anesthesia monitoring for unstable and high-risk patients
- Advanced venipuncture and catheterization skills
- Management of feeding tubes, chest tubes, drains, and urinary collection systems
- Isolation and infectious disease protocol management
- Mechanical syringe pump and infusion pump troubleshooting
- Point-of-care diagnostics including blood gas analysis, lactate, coagulation monitoring, and critical care lab interpretation
- Fear-free handling and compassionate critical patient care
- Thorough and accurate medical record keeping
- Ability to recognize patient decline and escalate concerns rapidly
- Ability to lead emergency situations calmly and efficiently
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- LVT/CVT/RVT preferred
- Specialty hospital and high-volume ER experience strongly preferred
About the Role
This is not a desk-management position. The Overnight Supervisor is expected to actively work on the floor alongside the team while helping maintain hospital standards, supporting doctors, mentoring staff, and ensuring exceptional patient care throughout the overnight shift.
