Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Quality Supervisor to lead quality assurance operations at our cold storage direct-to-consumer (DTC) fulfillment facility. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety, integrity, and quality of all perishable products moving through our temperature-controlled environment, including inbound inspection, in-process quality checks, sanitation oversight, food safety compliance, and customer complaint investigation. The Quality Supervisor will partner closely with operations, inventory, and leadership to enforce food safety standards, drive continuous improvement, and maintain audit readiness. This is a hands-on supervisory role for someone who thrives in fast-paced warehouse environments and understands the complexities of food safety in a perishable, lot-controlled cold chain.
Quality Assurance & Product Inspection
- Oversee daily quality operations including inbound product inspection, in-process checks, and outbound order verification.
- Inspect incoming product for quality defects, temperature abuse, packaging integrity, and labeling accuracy across all temperature zones (frozen, refrigerated, ambient).
- Investigate quality issues, customer complaints, and non-conformances; document root causes and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor quality KPIs including defect rates, complaint trends, hold/rejection rates, and temperature excursions.
Sanitation, Cold Chain & Food Safety
- Oversee the facility sanitation program, including master sanitation schedules, pre-operational inspections, and verification of cleaning effectiveness.
- Monitor and document temperature controls across receiving, storage, and staging; investigate excursions and quarantine impacted product.
- Enforce cold chain protocols during receiving, storage, and movement of perishable goods.
- Verify FIFO/FEFO rotation and date-code controls to ensure safe, in-spec product ships to customers.
- Manage product hold, release, and disposition decisions in coordination with operations and inventory teams.
- Train and coach warehouse associates on food safety, GMPs, sanitation, and quality expectations.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure facility practices comply with FDA, USDA, FSMA, HACCP, SQF, and applicable cold storage and food safety regulations.
- Own quality documentation and records (inspections, CCP logs, sanitation, training) to support customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.
- Lead recall readiness and mock recall exercises in partnership with inventory, ensuring full lot/batch traceability.
What You Bring:
- Extensive knowledge of ISO 13485 standards for medical devices or similar regulatory frameworks.
- Strong understanding of FDA regulations applicable to manufacturing environments.
- Proven experience with HACCP principles, CGMP guidelines, and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Expertise in conducting quality audits and inspections across manufacturing facilities.
- Skilled in implementing robust quality control procedures and performing thorough analysis of inspection data.
- Excellent project management capabilities with the ability to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously.
