Position Summary:
The Per Diem American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter provides accurate, culturally competent interpretation services to support individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This role ensures effective communication across medical, employment, housing, and community-based settings, promoting accessibility, independence, and inclusion.
Position Scope:
This is a Per Diem role that operates in both remote and in-person environments, with local travel required within the interpreter’s area of residence. The position supports a variety of OneWell Health Care services, including medical appointments, supported employment, housing services, and community integration activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide accurate ASL interpretation to facilitate communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals and hearing participants; support communication across medical, behavioral health, employment, housing, and community settings; maintain cultural competence and adapt interpreting style to individual needs; collaborate with OneWell staff and stakeholders; ensure confidentiality and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements; support communication needs across additional service areas as assigned; assist with coordination between individuals served and service providers; provide flexibility to accommodate varying schedules and service demands; interpret during medical and behavioral health appointments, supported employment activities, and housing or community-based services; coordinate with staff and service teams; travel locally for in-person assignments; and complete required documentation related to service delivery and billing.
Regulatory Frameworks:
Compliance with HIPAA regulations; adherence to OneWell Health Care policies and procedures; and alignment with applicable federal, state, and program-specific requirements related to interpreting services and disability support.
Confidentiality:
Maintains strict confidentiality of all individual, medical, and service-related information in accordance with HIPAA and OneWell Health Care policies.
Documentation Requirements:
Complete accurate and timely documentation of interpreting services as required for service tracking and billing; ensure all documentation meets organizational, regulatory, and compliance standards.
Certifications:
Must hold one of the following: National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), or meet eligibility for provisional registration (e.g., completion of an Interpreter Training Program within the past 5 years).
Education:
Completion of an Interpreter Training Program or equivalent education required (for provisional eligibility where applicable).
Experience:
Experience working as an ASL interpreter preferred; experience in IDD, behavioral health, medical, employment, or community-based settings is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Strong ASL interpreting skills; ability to adapt communication methods based on individual needs; knowledge of Deaf culture and interpreting best practices; and ability to manage scheduling and documentation requirements.
Languages:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English is required.
Driver License:
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for local travel assignments.
Travel Requirement:
Local travel within the assigned area of residence is required for in-person interpreting assignments, in addition to the ability to support remote interpreting services as needed.
