Job Description
The Mental Health Assistant Manager (MHAM) is a full-time position based on Rikers Island, each directly reporting to a Director or Deputy Director of Mental Health. The MHAM will assist in supporting Directors and Deputy Directors in the provision of administrative oversight and monitoring of staff providing mental health services in assigned therapeutic housing units (THU) and General Population. THUs include the Program for Accelerated Clinical Effectiveness (PACE), Mental Observation (MO), Supportive Transitional Engagement Program Units (STEP), and Groups for Addictions Treatment Enhancement Units (GATE) units, as well as other specialty THUs. Mental Health teams delivering care on Mental Health THUs include Mental Health Treatment Aides, Treatment Aide Programming Specialists, Mental Health Clinicians, Psychiatric Providers, and Creative Arts Therapists. Under the supervision of their assigned Director or Deputy Director, the MHAM will provide administrative supervisory support of the above staff. They will also work in collaboration with facility-based supervisors including Treatment Aide Supervisors, Senior MHCs, Clinical Supervisors, Supervising Psychiatrists, and other managers.
Responsibilities

Assist the Directors, Deputy Directors, and facility leadership in their management of staff, including but not limited to addressing staff timeliness and attendance, or staff failure to follow established workflows and protocols.

Coordinate and track the completion of therapeutic programming by Mental Health Staff.

Utilize departmental reports to collect and analyze data needed as a basis for administrative and management decisions.

Assist with quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives as directed by, and in collaboration with, facility Mental Health leadership.

Monitor the productivity of patient facing staff and staff adherence to established workflows by completing regular audits of services provided on MH THUs and in GP.

Assist in the orientation of newly hired jail-based mental health staff, including but not limited to Treatment Aides, Treatment Aide Programming Specialists, Mental Health Clinicians, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatric Physician Assistants, and Psychiatrists.

Assist with the management of relevant staffing matrices and staff hiring, including coordinating interviews when needed and monitoring the on-boarding process.

Assist with facilitating staff remediation when needed.

Track and/or assist staff with completing incident reports related to disruption of services on THUs.

Serve as a liaison with CHS Labor Relations and Human Resources for administrative staffing concerns raised by Mental Health managers; regularly participate in meetings as needed.

Liaise with counterparts in CHS Operations, Nursing, and Medicine to support staff and identify solutions to problems that arise.

Meet regularly with assigned supervisor for 1:1 supervision and to provide meaningful input into program designs, workflows, and staffing assignments.

Contribute as needed to the creation and update of departmental reports and policies.

Perform other appropriate mental health duties as directed by team leaders or supervisors.
