Construction Technology Instructor
Career and Technical Education (Grades 9-12)
Position Summary
The Construction Technology Instructor is responsible for preparing high school students for careers in the construction industry through engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with Alabama Career and Technical Education standards. The instructor will develop students' technical knowledge, employability skills, and industry certifications while maintaining a safe and productive laboratory environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver classroom and laboratory instruction in residential and commercial construction principles.
Teach foundational skills including:
Construction safety
Hand and power tool operation
Blueprint reading
Measurement and layout
Framing
Carpentry
Building materials
Basic electrical, plumbing, and masonry concepts
Integrate NCCER curriculum and prepare students for applicable industry credentials.
Develop lesson plans aligned with Alabama Course of Study standards.
Maintain a safe, organized, and OSHA-compliant shop environment.
Supervise students during laboratory activities and work-based learning experiences.
Build partnerships with local contractors, unions, apprenticeship programs, and business and industry leaders.
Strong computer skills for attendance and grade entry.
Advise and support student participation in SkillsUSA and other CTSO activities.
Maintain student records, inventory, equipment, and required documentation.
Participate in professional development and maintain required educator certification.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet or be eligible to meet Alabama State Department of Education certification requirements for a Bachelor’s Equivalent Technical Education Certificate in Construction Technology.
Candidates should possess one of the following:
Option 1
High school diploma, associate degree, or postsecondary technical training; and
Minimum of three years (5,400 hours) of recent construction industry experience.
Option 2
Bachelor's degree or higher; and
Minimum of two years (3,600 hours) of recent construction industry experience.
In addition, applicants must:
Meet current ALSDE Occupational Proficiency requirements for Construction Technology.
Meet required basic skills assessment requirements on WorkKeys Skill Assessment
Successfully complete required background clearance and fingerprint review.
Be eligible for Alabama Career and Technical Education certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Current or previous construction contractor, superintendent, project manager, foreman, or skilled trades experience.
NCCER credentials or experience using NCCER curriculum.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Experience working with high school students.

Salary
Salary will be based on the approved salary schedule and verified experience in accordance with Board policy.
