FABCO is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Painter to prepare and finish fabricated steel products for commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for surface preparation, applying industrial coatings, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring finished products are ready for delivery. The ideal candidate takes pride in producing clean, consistent work while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing fabricated steel products for commercial construction projects. This role ensures all painted products meet FABCO quality standards, project specifications, and customer expectations. The Painter works closely with fabrication and production teams to maintain workflow efficiency while promoting a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Surface Preparation
- Prepare steel components for painting by cleaning, sanding, grinding, masking, and removing contaminants.
- Inspect surfaces to ensure they are properly prepared for coating application.
- Identify and address surface defects prior to painting.
Coating Application
- Apply primers and industrial coatings using spray equipment, brushes, or rollers.
- Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
- Ensure proper paint coverage, coating thickness, and finish quality.
- Perform touch-up work as necessary to meet quality standards.
Quality Control
- Inspect completed work for defects, inconsistencies, or damage.
- Verify coatings meet project requirements and company quality standards.
- Maintain a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Equipment & Facility Maintenance
- Maintain spray equipment, paint booths, and painting tools.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment.
- Report equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
Production Coordination
- Work closely with fabrication and production teams to meet schedules and deadlines.
- Follow work orders, production priorities, and project specifications.
- Assist in maintaining efficient workflow throughout the shop.
Safety & Compliance
- Safely handle paints, solvents, coatings, and other hazardous materials.
- Follow OSHA requirements, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Utilize required PPE and maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain compliance with environmental and workplace safety standards.
Housekeeping & Organization
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Properly store materials, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure painting and staging areas remain orderly and efficient.
Professional Responsibilities
- Represent FABCO professionally and positively.
- Maintain strong teamwork, communication, and accountability.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Demonstrate reliability, quality workmanship, and strong work ethics.
EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in industrial, structural steel, automotive, or commercial painting preferred.
- Experience operating conventional spray equipment is a plus.
- Knowledge of industrial coatings and surface preparation techniques preferred.
- Ability to read work orders and follow instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification is a plus.
- Understanding of OSHA safety practices and proper PPE use.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Valid driver's license or reliable transportation
