ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The OSP Design Engineer I will assist in the design, development, and implementation of outside plant infrastructure of fiber optic networks. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and contributing to the successful delivery of high-quality of network solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Design & Planning:

Assist in the planning and design of outside plant (OSP) network infrastructure, including aerial and underground pathways for fiber optic and copper cables.

Utilize CAD and GIS tools to create detailed construction drawings and engineering plans.

Evaluate site conditions and determine optimal routing solutions.
Project Management:

Support project timelines by coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and external agencies.

Review project requirements to ensure design feasibility and compliance with project scope.
Field Work:

Conduct field surveys and site visits to verify existing conditions, identify potential challenges, and gather data for design.

Inspect construction activities for compliance with engineering standards and specifications.
Documentation:

Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including permits, bills of materials (BOM), and as-built drawings.

Ensure all designs adhere to local, state, and federal regulations as well as company standards.
Technical Support:

Provide technical assistance to construction teams during implementation.

Address design-related issues and update plans as needed.
Compliance & Standards:

Ensure designs meet industry standards such as NEC, NESC, and local building codes.

Stay updated on emerging technologies and methodologies in OSP design.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

2-3 years of experience in OSP design or telecommunications

Basic knowledge of fiber optic and copper network design principles.

Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, GIS software, or similar applications.

Familiarity with OSP engineering practices, including splicing, cabling, and pathway construction.
