We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate licensed K–6 Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher to provide specialized academic instruction, behavioral support, and individualized services for students with disabilities, with a primary focus on supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (AU) and children with behavioral needs. The EC Teacher will collaborate with general education teachers, families, related service providers, and school staff to ensure students receive effective instruction and meaningful access to the curriculum in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Essential Responsibilities
- Provide specially designed instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), focusing on academic growth, communication, social skills, independence, and self-regulation.
- Develop and implement individualized instructional plans using research-based practices to meet the unique needs of students with autism and other disabilities.
- Provide academic support in literacy, mathematics, executive functioning, and classroom participation skills.
- Implement positive behavior interventions and supports , including proactive strategies designed to increase student engagement, independence, and successful participation in school routines.
- Collect and analyze academic and behavioral data to monitor progress, make instructional decisions, and support IEP goals.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies that promote student success in inclusive settings.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy, communication, social interaction, and coping/regulation skills.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) when needed.
- Build strong relationships with students and families through consistent communication and collaborative problem-solving.
- Participate in IEP meetings and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with state and federal special education requirements.
- Work collaboratively with speech therapists, occupational therapists, counselors, behavior specialists, and other school personnel.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education
- Valid North Carolina Exceptional Children teaching license (or ability to obtain).
- Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or significant learning and behavioral needs.
- Knowledge of evidence-based autism practices, including:
- Visual supports and structured teaching strategies
- Explicit instruction
- Task analysis and skill development
- Positive behavior supports
- Data-driven decision making
- Social communication instruction
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to create a predictable, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
