As a Licensed Veterinary Technician for Rockin' Pets, Rollin' Vets, you will be responsible for taking exceptional care of our patients and clients. We are not like your typical vet clinic, we are mobile, which makes this position very fast paced, challenging, and highly rewarding.
Please note: You must have a valid Texas license to be considered for this position. Driving is a requirement.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assists Veterinarian with procedures and surgeries
- Provides gentle restraint for patient and team safety
- Understands normal vital parameters and alerts the Veterinarian when abnormal
- Collects urine, fecal, blood and other samples for in-house and external labs, and performs in-house lab tests
- Preserves and ships samples to external laboratories, receives results, and communicates to Veterinarian and clients
- Prepares the in house laboratory machines to transfer automatically to EMR in the vans, and transfers orphaned labs daily (CBC)
- Performs standard survey radiographs: knows how to set up the radiograph machine on all vans, utilize the digital radiograph program on all vans, and submit radiographs for telemedicine consults
- Prepares the van for scheduled patients visits making sure that all equipment (including surgical equipment) is properly sterilized and stored and that the van/surgery suite are clean and well-stocked
- Places IV catheters as required (under the supervision of a Veterinarian)
- Understands all Rollin' Vets protocols including but not limited to: Euthanasia Protocol, Declined Treatment Protocol, Vaccine Protocol, Radiograph Protocol, Medical Record Notes, Technician Office Duty Protocols
- Calculates basic medical math and understands classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitors therapeutic response
- Administers medications via appropriate route and duration (under the supervision of a Veterinarian)
- Prepares medications and patients for discharge, and communicates discharge instructions to clients
- Reads and follows verbal or written treatment plans by the Veterinarian
- Performs Technician office duties as stated in the Technician Office Duty List
- Prepares and has the ability to write up Electronic Medical Records if required using the Exam Template/Surgical Template/Medical Note Template as directed by a Veterinarian
- Schedules new appointments and rechecks if necessary, and performs follow-ups with clients
- Prepares the End of Shift Report nightly (last van in)
- Monitors clinic email and voicemail and responds in a professional and timely manner if necessary
- Collaborates with the Rollin’ Vets Team to develop training plans and materials for team members, actively participates in team meetings, training days, and other team activities
- Performs or manages van maintenance: Contacting/notifying Management via company protocol
- Maintains inventory on the van using the provided inventory sheets, including verifying office inventory and noting appropriately when inventory is absent or low and in need of ordering
- Conducts all activities with professionalism and a commitment to quality and excellence
- Performs other duties as directed by the Veterinarian
- Must have excellent verbal and written skills
Superior record keeping and communication is a MUST! Must have valid driver license and a clean driving record!
Qualifications and Skills
Must be a fast learner, able to think on your feet, a self starter, and must carry his/herself in a pleasant and professional manner. This job is not for someone who isn't detail oriented.
