We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented New Construction Estimator to join our growing team. This position plays a key role in securing new business by preparing accurate estimates, developing competitive proposals, and supporting successful project execution from bid to award.
Position Summary
The New Construction Estimator is responsible for reviewing construction drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, preparing detailed cost estimates, coordinating with manufacturers and vendors, and developing competitive bid proposals for commercial overhead doors, loading dock equipment, and related Division 8 products.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer-focused, and capable of managing multiple bid opportunities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for commercial overhead doors, loading dock equipment, loading dock accessories, and related products.
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and bid proposals.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing with manufacturers and vendors.
- Perform electronic quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam Revu and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Enter estimates, manage bid opportunities, and maintain project information using JobFilez.
- Maintain organized estimating files and project documentation.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, general contractors, and owners to clarify project requirements.
- Attend pre-bid meetings as required.
- Identify value engineering opportunities while maintaining project specifications.
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to project execution.
- Monitor bid schedules and consistently meet proposal deadlines.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
- Assist outside sales representatives with budgeting and conceptual pricing.
- Stay current on industry products, manufacturers, building codes, and construction practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum of three (3) years of commercial construction estimating experience.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word).
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred
- Experience estimating commercial overhead doors, loading dock equipment, loading dock accessories, or other Division 8 products.
- Experience performing digital takeoffs using Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat Pro, or similar software.
- Experience using JobFilez construction management software or comparable project management platforms.
- Knowledge of commercial construction practices and bidding procedures.
- Experience working with general contractors on negotiated and hard bid projects.
- Experience with public works and prevailing wage projects is a plus.
