We are looking for a highly creative apparel designer who is looking to be part of a growing brand. M&P is seeking someone with a thoughtful approach to design, always keeping quality, craft, hand work and innovation as top priorities. This role will support the design and development process, reporting directly to the Design Director. This role will also be working very closely cross functionally in a highly collaborative brand. The ideal candidate for this position is very creative, deeply passionate about craft and knitwear with real drive and care for the work they do. The ideal candidate has experience in womenswear and kids wear, ideally knit wear but also wovens and cut & sew. Portfolio required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with the Design Director and the textile/print designer to create our seasonal Kids collections as well as collaborations or exclusive collections.
- Work on two seasonal Adult collections
- Participate in the whole design process from concept to final product. Always keeping in mind brand history, aesthetics and quality standards.
- Hand sketch and create detailed Illustrator sketches with strong ability translate the Design Directors sketches into Illustrator sketches.
- Prepare and maintain BOM’s throughout the development process including updating sketches, garment and fabric construction details, hardware, and trims
- Style creation and data input/ style data management throughout the process
- Maintain Line sheets, including internal, vendor and WS line sheets
- Attend fittings and work closely with the design director and tech to make sure fit, construction and trims reflect the original idea and always in line with brands ethos
- Review and comment on lap dips so the ideal candidate should possess a strong sense of color
- Review samples along with the development manager and Production (SMS/TOP) as they come in
- Prepare and attend all Proto review and Line reviews
- Responsible for meeting calendar deadlines

- Experience with BOM’s and PLM.

- Exceptional organizational skills with a robust understanding of the apparel production process
- Highly detail oriented with exceptional follow up and follow through
- Flexible/adaptable to work in a highly creative and collaborative start-up environment

Background and Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of design experience, preferably with kids and knitwear experience
- Experience with an early to mid-stage start-up
- Strong technical drawing skills
- BOM’s, PLM
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and photoshop
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion design
- Willingness to learn and a strong passion for fashion, while seeking growth and longevity
