Job Summary:
Assaf & Siegal PLLC is a well-established small law firm located in Albany, New York seeking a personable, patient and hard-working Paralegal/Legal Assistant. The Paralegal/Legal Assistant will assist attorneys with case management, case organization and client communication. Our firm offers legal services in matrimonial and family law, civil litigation, bankruptcy, real estate transactions, estate planning and administration, and traffic tickets. The ideal candidate will have at least two (2) years’ experience in one or more of these fields.
Candidates should desire a fast-paced, challenging and collegial work environment. Candidates must be highly organized and pay attention to detail, possess the ability to prioritize, be a team player, and have excellent written and verbal skills. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat is a must. Experience using OneDrive is preferred.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Assist in all aspects of litigation.
- Prepare correspondence to clients, opposing counsel and the Court.
- Update client files with accurate and updated contact information.
- Prepare client retainer agreements.
- Assist in preparing, finalizing and filing notices of appearance, pleadings, motion papers, and financial statements.
- Prepare and electronically file legal documents with local, state and federal courts. Ensure compliance with filing deadlines and procedural requirements for NYSCEF, EDDS and ECF.
- Assist in preparation of discovery demands and responses, including subpoenas.
- Collect and organize client documentation such as financial records.
- Serve as a liaison between clients, attorneys, the court, and third parties. Ensure effective communication regarding case developments, deadlines, and required information including scheduling.
- Assist with trial preparation, including the preparation of exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders. Coordinate with witnesses and experts for trial support.
- Monitor court docket, calendar dates and communicate deadlines to assigned attorneys.
- Assist in the preparation and electronic filing of appellate documents including the record on appeal and appellate briefs.
- Assist in preparation of estate planning documents.
- Assist in all aspects of real estate closings.
- Monitor and respond to a large volume of emails and client inquiries.
- Assist with accounting tasks including payment of invoices and preparation and transmittal of legal bills.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time in office position, Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, training and certifications. This position’s annual salary range is between $65,000 and $75,000, negotiable based on experience. Benefits include bonus, 401(k), vacation/sick paid time off, and free parking.
