About Us:
We are a high-performing, office-based ambulatory surgery center specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery with additional services provided by a urogynecologist. Currently operating with two ORs and two overnight recovery rooms, our center is growing—with the infrastructure and vision to expand into a licensed ASC with two additional operating rooms. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Ambulatory Surgery Center Director of Nursing to lead day-to-day operations and help us scale with confidence and efficiency.
Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall clinical leadership, administration, and operation of nursing services at Waverly Surgery Center. The DON ensures delivery of exceptional patient care while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. This position provides strategic leadership to all perioperative services including Pre-Op, Operating Room, PACU, Sterile Processing, Infection Prevention, Medication Management, and Quality Improvement. The DON collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, administration, and staff to ensure outstanding clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, operational efficiency, and fiscal responsibility. The Director of Nursing promotes a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement while serving as a clinical resource and mentor to all nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the surgery center, including scheduling, staffing, inventory, and compliance
- Manage and train clinical and administrative staff
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements (OSHA, AAAASF, CMS, state/local health codes)
- Collaborate with surgeons and staff to support clinical excellence and patient satisfaction
- Lead efforts in cost management, vendor relationships, and budgeting
- Support growth and licensure expansion plans
- Maintain accurate reporting and quality assurance programs
- Serve as the liaison between providers, patients, and executive leadership
- Provide clinical support as needed in Pre-Op, Circulating, or PACU nursing roles to ensure smooth daily operations during staffing shortages
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum 5 years perioperative nursing experience
- Minimum 3 years leadership experience
- Ambulatory Surgery Center experience
- Experience managing operating room staff
- Experience with accreditation surveys
- Strong clinical background in perioperative nursing preferred
- Knowledge of accreditation and licensure standards (AAAHC, AAAASF, or similar)
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with surgical scheduling, EMR/EHR systems, and supply chain operations
- Experience with plastic surgery or urogynecology a plus
- Plastic Surgery ASC experience QUAD A and/or AAAHC survey experience
- Medicare-certified ASC experience Budget management experience
- Multi-specialty ASC experience
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required (North Carolina or compact state)

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
