Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced High School Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role involves developing and implementing tailored educational programs for students with diverse learning needs, including those with autism, developmental disabilities, and other special needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong classroom management skills, expertise in behavior management, and a passion for fostering an inclusive learning environment. Prior experience in special education settings, curriculum development, and familiarity with IEP processes are highly valued. Duties
- Design and deliver individualized lesson plans aligned with state standards and student IEP goals, incorporating curriculum development and differentiated instruction techniques.
- Implement behavior management strategies and behavioral therapy techniques to support positive student behaviors and learning outcomes.
- Conduct assessments using standardized testing methods to evaluate student progress and adjust instructional approaches accordingly.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists, to develop comprehensive support plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, attendance, and behavioral data in compliance with educational policies such as the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to learning technology, autism spectrum disorder strategies, literacy education, math instruction (including calculus and algebra), and other specialized areas.
- Facilitate communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress through reports, meetings, and updates on IEP implementation.
- Support classroom management by creating a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Incorporate creative writing, tutoring techniques, and library services to enrich the curriculum when appropriate.
- Assist in curriculum planning for physical education or other specialized classes as needed.
Skills
- Proven experience working with students with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP development, and compliance standards.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
- Proficiency in learning technology tools that enhance teaching effectiveness for diverse learners.
- Expertise in behavior management strategies such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) and behavioral therapy techniques.
- Classroom management skills to maintain a structured yet flexible environment conducive to learning for students with varied needs.
- Ability to develop engaging lesson plans across multiple subjects including literacy education, math (including algebra and calculus), creative writing, and physical education.
- Experience with standardized testing procedures and assessment analysis to monitor student achievement levels.
- Mentoring abilities to support new teachers or aides within the special education team. Pay: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
