Summary:
The Tool Presetter is responsible for preparing, setting, and maintaining cutting tools for use in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to ensure parts are manufactured to precise specifications. This role also includes managing tool inventory, performing maintenance and repairs, and assembling or disassembling tools and fixtures. The Tool Presetter participates on a high-volume, multi-functional team and supports the site’s business goals by ensuring efficient and accurate tool operations.
Responsibilities:
· Follow all safety guidelines and procedures when handling tools and operating equipment.
· Inspect and measure finished workpieces using gauges, micrometers, and other instruments to verify conformance to specifications. Daily Point of Use checks and manage inventory.
· Prepare tools using a tool presetter, such as a Zoller, to measure and set tool lengths and offsets.
· Clean, examine, and repair cutting tools and related components as needed.
· Maintain tool cribs, tool holders, and related inventory, ensuring efficient stock control and accurate records.
· Assemble and disassemble cutting tools and fixtures.
· Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and machine operators to ensure smooth tool changes and production.
· Study blueprints, work orders, and machining instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements, and operational sequences.
· Adhere to part-specific work instructions to ensure proper tool setup and production quality.
· Communicate effectively between shifts to ensure smooth transitions.
· Identify and resolve issues related to tool setup, maintenance, or inventory.
· Participate in initiatives to improve tool management processes and overall efficiency.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· 5 years manufacturing experience, strong mechanical background, excelled communication and organizational skills
· Knowledge of tool presetters, hand tools, and measuring instruments preferred.
· Understanding of various cutting tool types, materials, and applications preferred.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
· Tool pre-setting knowledge and skills is a plus
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office emphasis on Excel is preferred.
· Strong computer, written, and verbal communication skills.
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
