Position Overview
We are seeking a versatile and empathetic Mental Health Technician to join our outpatient clinic in the Greater Portland area. In this role, you will support innovative interventional mental health treatments (such as Ketamine/Spravato therapy, TMS, or other neuro-therapeutics), handle essential front-desk administrative duties, and deliver compassionate, hands-on patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Interventional Treatment Support: Assist medical providers during interventional procedures, monitor patient vitals, and provide continuous, grounding support to patients before, during, and after treatments.
- Vascular Access & Clinical Prep: Prepare treatment rooms, assist with peripheral IV setups/drips, sanitize equipment, and maintain strict adherence to medical safety protocols.
- Administrative & Front Desk Operations: Answer multi-line phones, schedule patient appointments, process check-ins and check-outs, manage electronic medical records (EMR), and assist with patient billing inquiries.
- Patient Care & Safety: Maintain a calm, welcoming environment for individuals navigating mental health challenges while ensuring strict patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
Qualifications
- IV & Vascular Experience (Highly Preferred): Prior experience with IV insertion, vascular access, phlebotomy, or assisting in an outpatient IV infusion setting is strongly preferred.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or certification as a Psychiatric Technician, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Phlebotomist preferred.
- Administrative Skills: Hands-on experience with medical scheduling software, EMR systems, and high-volume phone management.
- Certifications: Active Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) certification required (or obtainable within 30 days of hire).
- Skills: Exceptional phone etiquette, compassionate bedside manner, strong organization, and de-escalation skills.

Duties
- Observe and monitor psychiatric patients regularly to assess their mental and physical condition, ensuring safety and stability.
- Assist with behavior management strategies, de-escalation techniques, and crisis prevention to maintain a calm environment.
- Implement physical restraint techniques when necessary, following established protocols to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Support patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility assistance.
- Document patient interactions, medical records, and behavioral observations accurately and promptly in compliance with facility policies.
- Participate in psychiatric care routines such as medication administration support, patient assessments, and treatment planning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs.
Experience
- Prior experience working in acute care settings or behavioral health hospitals is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities or mental health conditions is essential.
- Knowledge of psychiatry principles, patient observation techniques, and crisis intervention methods is required.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and patient monitoring procedures is necessary.
- Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders or behavioral health hospital environments will be advantageous.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is strongly recommended; additional training in physical restraint techniques or behavior intervention is a plus.
- A background in hospital or psychiatric facility experience will support success in this energetic role.
