Position Summary
The Packaging Forklift Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of forklifts while supporting all packaging operations within the sawmill. This position ensures finished lumber is properly handled, packaged, organized, and prepared for shipment while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
This role works closely with production and shipping personnel to maintain an efficient workflow. When shipping activities are minimal, the Packaging Forklift Driver assists with packaging functions to maximize production efficiency. The successful candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, product quality, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Safely operate forklifts while following all company safety policies and operating procedures.

Transport finished lumber units to and from the packaging line and shipping areas.

Stack, organize, and stage finished products in designated storage locations.

Assist in maintaining an efficient flow of material through the packaging department.

Support packaging operations by:

Setting corner protectors
-
Applying stencils and markings
-
End sealing lumber
-
Installing stickers and paper wrap
-
Measuring and marking random-width units
-
Assisting with additional packaging tasks as needed

Inspect finished packages for proper size, grade, banding, paper wrap, labeling, and overall quality.

Identify and report improperly built or damaged units before shipment.

Pick up and dispose of loose boards, damaged material, and debris to maintain a clean work area.

Transport packaging materials and supplies, including banding, paper, corner protectors, and related materials.

Place pile bottoms and prepare staging areas for finished product.

Assist the sawmill stacker operator by removing and stacking units from the dip tank outfeed when needed.

Perform daily forklift inspections, including checking fuel, engine oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, tires, and safety equipment.

Refuel equipment as required and report any maintenance concerns immediately.

Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when required.

Report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, and potential hazards immediately.

Participate in routine housekeeping and minor maintenance during production downtime.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
