American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position in Cornelius, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PCU experience and Epic proficiency.

Position is located in a newly opening 33-bed hospital unit in Cornelius, NC, opening at 50% capacity and growing
-
Medical-based PCU serving adult patients with diagnoses including CHF, COPD, established vents and trachs, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, dialysis patients, and insulin drip management
-
Patient ratio is 1:4 on the PCU unit; 1:4 if floating to MedSurg
-
No tele tech on staff — nurses are responsible for monitoring their own patients using in-room monitors
-
EMR is Epic (experience required); IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell
-
12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
-
Weekend rotation consists of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, with potential for additional weekend shifts based on department need
-
Self-scheduling within a 6-week cycle, subject to manager approval

No on-call or call-back requirements

Travelers are first to float and may be required to float to any facility within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, any Freestanding ED within Region, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH), within scope of practice

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required

Epic EMR experience required

Proficient in general nursing skills including IV starts, wound care (dressing changes, wound vacs, drains), central line management (dressing changes, blood draws), NG tube insertion, tube feeds, PCA pumps, kangaroo pumps, and cardiac rhythm interpretation

Must be comfortable performing lab draws (no phlebotomy department on unit)

Must be comfortable titrating drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin, heparin, and insulin (Endotool)

Willingness to care for vented patients and to be trained on Precedex drips is required (prior experience not required)

Must be willing to float to all Region 1 facilities as needed — candidates who are not agreeable should not apply

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

First-time travelers with more than 5 years of PCU experience will be considered; candidates with less than 5 years of PCU experience must have prior travel experience

Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible

Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates are not accepted

Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) followed by 1–2 shifts on the unit depending on comfort level

Department support includes 3 CNAs (1 with HUC duties), a free-floating charge nurse, RT available 24/7, hospitalist available 24/7 (on call at night), and anesthesia available 24/7 for intubation support

Intensivist is not available at night

Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays during their contract
-
RTO of up to 7 days may be approved; additional RTO or RTO surrounding holidays requires manager approval
