Essential Functions
● Interviews patient or representative to obtain current demographic information such as name, address, age, persons to notify in case of emergency, and individual or insurance company responsible for payment of bill. Accurately enters data into the Electronic Health Record System.
● Explains Heartland Health Center's policies regarding sliding fee availability and payment of accounts.
● Assists with patient flow and schedules appointments.
● Directs incoming patient and visitors to the appropriate location.
● Refers patients to the Billing Department for sliding fee scale or insurance concerns.
● Assigns patient to appropriate provider during intake.
● Responsible for collecting payments and issuing receipts to patients. Tallies receipts and monies at the end of the shift. Understands and complies with the Center's policies governing cash receipts and balance sheet requirements.
● Refers vendors and other community/business organizations calls or individuals to the appropriate individual within the organization.
● Assists in the rotation to staff the front desk until the last patient has left the building.
● Oversees the patient waiting area, coordinates patient movement, and reports problems or irregularities to the Manager on duty.
● Participates in all departmental and organizational meetings as required.
· May participate in community activities that support the mission of the Heartland Health Center
· Represents Heartland Health Center in a meaningful and professional manner to the service community.
· Assumes responsibility for quality of services rendered to patients
· Provides professional perspective in development of the strategic plan.
· Contributes insight to assure alliance of organizational mission with needs of medically underserved community
Education and Experience
· High school diploma or GED
· Bilingual in English/Spanish required
Skills and Abilities
· A high level of interpersonal skills in order to communicate verbally with the patients, families, visitors and clinical staff.
· Able to provide excellent customer service, internally and externally.
· Able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
· Must possess exceptional telephone communication skills
· Ability to use independent judgment to complete tasks
· Ability to maintain a very high level of confidentiality
· Demonstrated professional commitment to providing services to medically underserved persons
· Computer literate in electronic mail, word processing, office management system software, and the Electronic Health Record System

The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
