The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Traffic Signal Technician in the Transportation Department. The Transportation Department supports the safe and efficient movement of people throughout the city. This position is responsible for maintenance and repair of City owned traffic signals, street lights, and related equipment.
High school diploma or GED required with some vocational or technical training in traffic signal maintenance or
electrical; supplemented by two years of experience in electronics maintenance and repair; or any equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for
this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Must
possess and maintain a valid International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Field Technician Level I
certification or obtain the certification within 180 days of hire.
Must possess and maintain a valid International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Field Technician
Level II certification or obtain the certification within 1 year of hire.

to function effectively in the position.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving
some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and
which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight
(30-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors,
sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental
conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes,
heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards.
