Purpose: To assist the teacher in providing a warm, nurturing, Christ-centered, safe, and loving environment in which children can grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom teacher in supervision and management of a group of children
- Interacts with, initiates, and encourages children in daily activities
- Assists lead teacher in planning learning activities - take the initiative to ask what could be helpful!
- Helps children control behavior using a Christ-centered, positive, consistent approach - following our discipline policy as outlined in the handbook
- Helps children grow to become independent
- Helps prepare the learning environment, sets up interest centers, and prepares materials
- Assists in preparing and serving snacks, promotes integral learning during snack times
- Maintains good communication with parents
- Helps with general housekeeping tasks, taking initiative to keep the classroom clean and tidy
- Attends to needs of individual children with sensitivity
- Helps build a supportive, caring team
Education/Experience Requirements:
- EDU 119, other SCH (semester credit hours) in ECE, or willingness to take EC classes at the direction of Precious Lambs
- Experience working with young children in learning situations (preferred)
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to young children
- Evidence of security and judgement to handle crisis situations
- Be certified or willing to become certified in First Aid and CPR
- Prior to employment, substitute teacher shall submit a dated report of satisfactory TB test
- Present a dated medical statement signed by a licensed physician, a licensed nurse practitioner, or a licensed physician's assistant verifying that he/she is physically and mentally able to care for children. This statement shall be dated not more than six months prior to employment or within 30 days after date of employment.
- Prior to official employment, all employees must present a background check from the Division of Child Development and Early Education showing that they are "qualified"
