Summary:
Operates and maintains industrial saw equipment to cut and process raw wood into slabs according to production specifications. Ensures efficient workflow, consistent quality, and adherence to safety standards while performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting equipment issues.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Controls the operation of saw equipment by setting machine to production product specifications.
- Monitors the operation of equipment or systems to ensure appropriate volume produced meets established production and quality standards.
- Loads raw wood into machine and ensures a constant flow through the saw operation.
- Examines product or work to ensure conformance to established standards.
- Dislodges and clears jammed materials or other items from machinery and equipment using proper hand tools.
- Observes operation of equipment to detect malfunctions.
- Moves controls to start, stop, or adjust machinery and equipment as needed or required.
- Records data from operations, testing and production on specified forms as required.
- Cleans, adjusts, and maintains equipment using hand tools.
- Inspects blades, chains, belts or scrolls for signs of wear.
- Performs routine maintenance on the equipment blades using a hand grinder.
- Cleans work areas with hand tools, including shovels and brooms as required or requested.
- Promptly notifies supervisors of needed repairs or problems.
- Follow established safety requirements and standards.
- May direct other personnel supporting saw operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience/Skills:
- Must have experience working around heavy machinery/equipment. Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
- Experience performing basic preventative maintenance and maintenance checks on heavy equipment.
- Must be able to lift approximately 40-50 pounds on a constant basis.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or material.
- Able to stand, walk, bend and stoop for extended period of time (on repetitive basis).
- Must be able to work in varying outside weather temperatures (depending on season).
- Exposed to loud noises.
- Must be able to speak and communicate in English and record production data on required forms.
- Able to follow detailed instructions.
