Summary
The Developmental Specialist is responsible to implement long term objectives and ongoing services according to individuals program plans for the pre-vocational program and day habilitation program.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team;
- In the absence of a health care aide assists appropriate participants with activities of daily living such as toileting, feeding, coat removal and transferring from wheelchair to regular chair.
- Plan, coordinate and provide individualized and group activities to assist participants obtain their program goals.
- Maintains accurate tracking sheets to monitor participant’s progress on individualized goals.
- Communicates to the Case Manager when a participant has achieved a goal or if a goal is in need of revision/discontinuation.
- Assists in the development of goals.
- Maintains accurate attendance records for pre-vocational program and day habilitation program.
- Complete pre-vocational and day habilitation participant weekly notes.
- Assess and evaluate new program participants as needed and according to regulations.
- Responsible for the monthly supply checklist and for equipment utilization and upkeep, as well as program supplies and materials necessary for activities in the program.
- Responsible for purchasing needed program supplies utilizing the agencies purchasing system.
- Provides appropriate basic first aid, as needed
- Informs case manager of significant health related observations and complete appropriate paperwork;
- Participates in staff meetings and staff in-service programs; serves on assigned agency committees
- Ensures that participants and their correspondents are treated with the utmost dignity and respect and allows individuals to fully exercise their human rights;
- Other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director.
Knowledge and Skills
- High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of experience working with people with disabilities OR Associates Degree in Human Services with one year experience.
The above qualifications may be waived in lieu of a combination of other educational and occupational experience after a thorough review by the Chief Operation Officer.
