THE SAFETY SPECIALIST POSITION
Position Summary
The Safety Specialist will be responsible for implementing and overseeing safety programs, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, conducting on-site safety audits, and running or instructing new-hire training and weekly safety huddles. This role requires a self-starter who can work independently, travel frequently, and conduct thorough safety assessments in the field. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to influence safety culture across multiple locations.
SAFETY SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES
· Serve as an independent validation and calibration authority to ensure consistent enforcement, scoring integrity, and regulatory alignment by conducting independent audits, re-auditing a representative random sample of manager audits, identifying scoring or enforcement discrepancies, providing structured calibration feedback to leadership, and filling audit coverage gaps in under-supported areas.
· Conduct safety audits, job site inspections, and hazard assessments at various field locations within the Northeastern US territory, supporting approximately fifty-two (52) field technicians.
· Travel will primarily require the use of a personal vehicle, and commercial travel may be required to support various locations outside of the state.
· Provide training and coaching to field teams on safety procedures, best practices, and regulatory compliance.
· Maintain accurate documentation of safety audits, training sessions, and incident reports.
· Identify potential risks, provide corrective action recommendations, and follow up on compliance improvements.
· Investigate incidents and near misses to determine root causes and develop prevention strategies.
· Develop, implement, and maintain SunStrong’s safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other regulatory standards.
· Ensure timely reporting and communication of safety issues and concerns to leadership.
· Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Operations, Fleet, and Field Service teams, to enhance safety culture.
· Monitor and stay up to date with changing safety regulations and industry standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum 2+ years of experience in Safety roles within the Electrical, Solar or Construction Industry.
· Must have a valid driver’s license
· Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and industry specific safety regulations
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to train and influence teams
· Proficiency in Safety audit tools and reporting software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Osha 30 certification (Osha 500/510 Preferred)
· Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Safety, or related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to lift 50lbs, work at heights, and perform physical tasks as needed
· Willingness to travel up to 50% to conduct safety audits and inspections
Pay: $74,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
