Job Summary
The Discovery Lounge is seeking a true morning person, someone who brings calm, positivity, and readiness into the start of each day to serve as our before-school team leader. This role sets the tone for scholars as they begin their morning, creating a warm, structured environment filled with quiet reading, board games, empowerment routines, and gentle transitions into the school day.
This is a trusted leadership position, but not a managerial or administrative role. You will guide the morning flow, support staff, welcome families, and ensure the space is prepared for a successful day.
- Supervise and guide a small team of childcare staff to deliver a high‑quality, developmentally aligned before‑school experience
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of all children through vigilant supervision, adherence to safety protocols, and emergency readiness (including first aid, CPR, and AED procedures)
- Plan and facilitate engaging morning activities that promote social skills, early childhood development, physical activity, and creativity
- Maintain a calm, positive, structured environment using effective behavior and classroom management strategies
- Communicate warmly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding morning updates, student behavior, and general questions
- Serve as the morning liaison between families and the program, ensuring smooth communication and a welcoming start to the day
- Coordinate with school staff to ensure seamless transitions and timely arrival for all students
- Uphold all policies related to child supervision, childcare standards, and youth development practices
- Open the building each morning and prepare the space for scholars
- Gather and organize supplies for the afternoon team, ensuring materials are ready and inventory needs are communicated
- Support inventory management to ensure the program remains fully stocked and operational
- Represent The Discovery Lounge with professionalism, integrity, and positivity
- Collaborate with school partners and maintain strong working relationships across all sites
Requirements
- A dependable, reliable, and upbeat morning person
- Someone who genuinely enjoys working with school‑age children
- A problem solver with strong communication skills
- Flexible, professional, and able to support school partnerships
- Over 18 years old
- At least 1 year of experience working with school‑age students
- Able to pass a background check
- Has reliable transportation
- Open to working additional hours in our after-school program if desired
