The Houseman/Maintenance Technician in Training is responsible for the cleanliness of guest floor corridors, foyers, stairwells, and public vending areas, while assisting Room Attendants in maintaining high standards of quality and cleanliness. In addition to houseman duties, this position receives hands on training in basic maintenance functions including preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and equipment care, preparing the associate for future advancement into a Maintenance Technician role. No prior maintenance experience is required.
Required Skills and Requisites:

Excellent communication skills. Ability to convey information and ideas clearly to guests and team members.

Ability to read and understand directions on cleaning chemicals and material safety data sheets.

Ability to use chemicals, tools, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repair fundamentals.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and safety protocols.

Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, and to stand, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred, not required.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Houseman Duties
-
Empty room attendant carts of soiled linen and trash.
-
Vacuum, sweep, and/or mop hallways, stairwells, vending areas, and foyers.

Clear and remove spots from corridor walls and doors.

Polish and clean mirrors, room numbers on guest room doors, and elevator doors.
Maintenance Training Duties
-
Shadow Maintenance Technicians and Chief Engineer to learn basic repair and troubleshooting skills.

Assist with routine preventive maintenance on guest room and public area equipment, including HVAC units, plumbing fixtures, and lighting.

Learn to complete basic repairs such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, and air filters, patching drywall, and fixing minor plumbing leaks.

Assist with maintaining the pool, spa, and life safety equipment logs as directed.

Learn proper use, care, and storage of maintenance tools and equipment.

Complete work order requests under supervision, documenting work performed accurately.

Assist with grounds and exterior upkeep as assigned.

Follow all safety procedures, including lockout tagout and proper handling of hazardous materials.
