Stephens & Smith is seeking a dependable individual to support our team with light mechanical work and general shop tasks. Responsibilities include performing basic service work, assisting with shop operations, and occasionally traveling to job sites.
Key Responsibilities (Includes, but not limited to):
- Perform oil changes and routine service work
- Repair vehicle and trailer lighting
- Grease equipment and assist with general preventative maintenance
- Pick up parts and shop supplies as needed
- Assist with diagnosing mechanical issues (training provided; willingness to learn required)
- Support general shop operations and assist with miscellaneous tasks as needed
- Make occasional trips to job sites when required
Preferred (Not required) Talents:
- Basic mechanical experience with vehicles, trailers, or small equipment
- Familiarity with hand and power tools
- Experience with preventative maintenance and routine service work
- Knowledge of basic electrical systems (lights, wiring, trailer connections)
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience working in a shop or construction environment
- Commercial Driver’s License
Physical Demands
Definitions: Based on 8 to 12 hours per day
Continually 70-100% Regularly 50-70%
Periodically 20-50% Rarely – less than 20%
Continually standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Regularly climbing ladders, working in awkward positions, exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, and loud noise.
Periodically lifting up to 100 lbs., working with vibrating machinery, and handling chemicals (per safety protocols).
Regularly working under pressure to meet project deadlines and maintenance schedules.
Continually working eight to ten-hour shifts, including occasional weekends.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- Basic mechanical knowledge is preferred but willing to train the right person
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to read equipment manuals, problem solve, and learn new skills
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must pass a DOT physical exam
