RN Time Sensitive Emergency Sepsis Program Coordinator
Position Summary
This position works in collaboration with the inter-professional team members to provide evidence based care to sepsis patients. Assures outcomes of Early Goal Directed Therapy through utilizing agreed upon protocols and ensuring effective processes are embedded in the inter-professional teams’ care delivery model and workflows. Collects and analyzes data surrounding the coordination of care of the sepsis patient and use of protocols for use in quality improvement efforts. In collaboration with the Sepsis Medical Director and Director of Emergency Services and Time Sensitive Emergencies, drives implementation of contemporary evidence based practice related to sepsis care and assists in program development as it relates to care of all sepsis patients regardless of setting with the goal to decrease mortality, complications, and length of stay for patient population.
Responsibilities
- Develops, plans, organizes, manages, and evaluates the Kootenai Health Sepsis program
- Standardizes, maintains, and continually enhances the quality of care delivered to sepsis patients from our community and region
- Coordinates the sepsis program by communicating effectively and working cooperatively with others using an integrated approach toward achieving optimal patient outcomes
- Develops and implements sepsis related protocols, policies and procedures reflecting current evidence. Assures policies, procedures and practices remain current and evidence-based relative to protocols, and modifies as necessary
- Ensures utilization of current evidence in the treatment of sepsis and resuscitation of the patient population. Leads performance improvement processes recognizing trends, exploring alternatives. Role models critical thinking by demonstrating proactive problem solving. Evaluates patient outcomes and interprets and presents data for key stakeholders
- Participates in regular meetings for the evaluation of outcomes, policy and protocol development, review of current best practice
- Acts as a resource for staff and providers in developing a plan of care and facilitates evidence based practice across all disciplines in accordance with current sepsis guidelines
- Proactively collaborates with unit based clinical teams and rapid response team to ensure a seamless, coordinated and integrated approach to the care of the sepsis patient
- Monitors clinical processes, outcomes and system issues related to quality of care. Identifies learning needs of professional staff and patient education.
- Collaborates with Executive Director of Nursing Excellence in the development and implementation of the inter-professional education plan. Provides education in order to advance staff, patient, and their families’ knowledge
- Serves as a liaison to administration, Regional and State sepsis providers and programs; represents at various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal sepsis care management
- Works with EMS, referral hospitals and post-acute care facilities to ensure timely, appropriate and seamless care is delivered to patient population regardless of setting
- Collaborates with sepsis-associated research protocols when appropriate
- Maintains current knowledge and competency in the management of the septic patient and in professional practice (e.g. conferences/workshops, professional organizations, etc.)
- Performs other related duties or projects as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s of Nursing preferred; enrollment in a graduate nursing program within 3 years of hire encouraged
- State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the “multistate privilege to practice” compact with Idaho prior to start date
- Previous work experience with project management preferred
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in Emergency or Critical Care required; leadership or charge experience preferred
- CEN, CCRN, CVBC or other specialty certification required within 2 years of hire
- Knowledge of EMS systems and experience working with EMS providers preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Statistical analysis, project planning skills preferred
- Influential, excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills
- Strong communication skills in both oral and written format
