This hybrid role is ideal for someone who enjoys both patient interaction and supporting the clinical side of optometry. You’ll assist with optical sales and fittings while also working alongside the doctor during exams to document patient information in real time.
Key Responsibilities
As an Optician:
- Assist patients with frame selection, lens options, and eyewear adjustments
- Place and manage eyewear orders with accuracy and attention to detail
- Maintain frame inventory and ensure optical displays are neat and updated
- Educate patients on lens options, insurance coverage, and care instructions
As an Optometric Scribe:
- Accurately document patient history, exam findings, and treatment plans during the eye exam
- Enter data into electronic health records (EHR) under the direction of the optometrist
- Prepare patients for their exams (pre-testing, chart updates, etc.)
- Ensure smooth patient flow and support clinical operations
Qualifications
- Prior experience as an optician and/or scribe preferred
- Familiarity with optical terminology and products
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Basic computer and typing proficiency; EHR experience (with Revolution is a plus!)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; certification (ABO, CPO) is a bonus
