Primary Function
Installing pipe systems in commercial buildings for heating and air conditioning.
Typical Duties
- Drilling and setting concrete anchors for pipe hangers.
- Measuring, cutting and fitting a variety of types of pipe (copper, carbon steel, PVC and HDPE)
- Several methods of joining pipe (welding, soldering, brazing, threading, grooved couplings and glueing)
- Operating equipment: Reach lifts, forklifts and scissor lifts.
- Keeping jobsite clean.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience
- Journeymen must be able to display knowledge and skills.
- The candidate must possess and be adaptable to the following physical abilities and working conditions.
- Ability to frequently lift or carry 20 to 50 pounds. The ability to assist with lifting or carrying up to 100 pounds when necessary.
- Physical requirements include standing, bending, squatting, sitting, kneeling, lying down, crawling, climbing, and driving. Typical working conditions include working on ladders, on rooftops, in crawl spaces, in unheated areas, and in all weather conditions.
- Must be capable of working ten-to-twelve-hour days when job/business needs demand.
- Must be able to work easily and skillfully with hands and fingers to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects and materials.
- Must have possession of small hand tools and the ability to use them with company provided power Tools.
- Must be able to certify in scissor lift operation (training will be provided)
- Must be able to work at heights and in tight surroundings.
- Includes field layout with the use of blueprints and shop drawings to meet project requirements and specifications.
- The typical working tasks for pipe installation range from setting hangers at a specified elevation, cutting and fitting multiple types of pipes (copper, black, PVC), setting pipe into hangers at a specific elevation, the knowledge and ability to solder, weld, fit, glue, groove, and thread small ¾ inch up to 24-inch pipe systems
Salary Range-
$42-52 per hour based on experience (FSLA Non-Exempt)
