We are seeking to hire a Mechanical Engineer/Designer with robust experience designing automated equipment and taking it from concept to a finished product. PLEASE, ONLY EXPERIENCED MACHINE DESIGNERS NEED APPLY.
We are looking for someone who has experience working a problem from the initial customer interaction to the finished product. The candidate needs to have experience designing industrial production machinery. Examples: feeders, uncoilers, shears, punches, rotary table systems, fixturing, conveyance systems, pick and place units, etc. The right person for this position will be able to identify and talk through automated solutions for customer issues on a highly technical level. If awarded a job the Mechanical (Automation) Engineer will design the system and follow the project through the manufacturing process. This position will require some travel to job sites or factories
to measure physical dimensions for machinery and observe production lines. This is definitely one of those “wear many hats” jobs since you will be working as sales, design, floor management and customer service. We need someone who is a natural problem solver, a person who thrives on tough challenges and
actively takes on new initiatives. This position requires a self-starter and someone who can work effectively in a distributed team environment, with good presentation, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conceptualize automated solutions based on customer requests
- Design automation equipment from concept (fully auto assembly cells, punching and shearing equipment, etc.) for precision industries and the Reed City Group Plastics department
- Apply engineering principals and formulas to designs and verify design decisions using engineering data
- Spec. and size mechanical (motors), pneumatic (cylinders), and hydraulic equipment (motors & cylinders) required for each application and develop documentation and prints for equipment builds and vendor activity
- Understand manufacturing processes and manage designs through the manufacturing facility
- Participate in team and customer meetings to identify requirements, specs, time lines and customer expectations
- Collaborate with the engineering team as systems are built and will develop deliverable packages for the customer
Job Requirements/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline perferred
- 5 years of experience in mechanical design required specifically designing automated production machinery
- Experience designing production automation, assembly and test equipment, gages, fixtures and tooling
- The ideal candidate will have knowledge of hydraulics systems
- Solid PC skill proficiency with a history in at least one CAD discipline (Solidworks, Catia, ProE, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven team player with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, upper management, and staff.
